Sarah O’Connor discusses what motivated her to pursue a career in law, some of the biggest challenges she faced during the law school application process, and what the next generation of lawyers should know about the legal admissions process and profession.

Sarah O’Connor is the Managing Partner at O’Connor Richardson. She graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School with an LL.B. in 2004 and obtained her LL.M. at the University of London in 2014. Sarah mainly practices civil and corporate litigation law, construction liens, and contract disputes.

O’Connor’s motivation for becoming a lawyer “was a way to help shape history, contribute to the betterment of society, and give people a voice that they may not have otherwise.”

As O’Connor recalled her journey as a law student, she said that “any job that holds you accountable, learning time management, and good communication skills is a good experience.” Students looking for suitable work experience for law school should take note of this.

Since AI is making splashes in many industries, O’Connor also talked about AI’s role in law. She thinks that “litigation/barrister work is one of the areas where AI would be slow to eliminate” and “AI can’t replace courtroom advocacy.”

Juris Education launched this series of interviews with noted lawyers to help aspiring and current law students learn from the best. O’Connor’s candid account of the sacrifices she’s made to reach to become a successful lawyer and Managing Partner.
