Lottery Ticket Disputes

Lottery Ticket Disputes generally occur when a group of friends or coworkers pool their resources and buy a weekly group ticket for one of the registered lotteries.

A dispute normally arises when a party either missed their weekly contribution or believe they were a co-owner of an OLG (Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation) winning lottery ticket. The party believes that they are entitled to a portion of the win and the group isn’t paying their share of the price.

If you believe you have a right to a lottery winning price over $10,000 you may apply to have the dispute resolved either through arbitration at the AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) or you can start a proceeding in the Ontario Courts.

If you believe you are owed a portion of a lottery price, the first step is to file a Notice of Dispute with the AGCO. The Notice of Dispute can be found at the AGCO website: https://www.agco.ca/sites/default/files/1226e.pdf
